Entrance of Teams (prior to opening ceremonies)

  • Only one team consisting of actual ten members competing will be allowed on the test floor. The team will be accompanied by the head coach.  The head coach must register the team at the entrance door and will then be directed to go to their respective table.

  • No marching in of teams.  Upon the start of the program, the teams will be called according to their I.D. number (2 through 103). Everyone remain seated. When your team is called, the 10 students, together with the head coach stand from where they are; is applauded by the audience and they go back to their seats.  The LAST school to be called is the holder of the “perpetual trophy” (ID # 1: St. Mel School). All teams will be asked to stand and recognize the team and after the “perpetual trophy” is returned on stage, the formal program begins. This is the time all head coaches join the rest of their contingent.

  • Alternates, coaches, parents and principal and/or pastor of their school delegation will be directed to stay in the general spectators’ area. Spectator seating is not reserved.

Wrist bands

  • Every person who comes in the arena for the event must wear an assigned color wrist band which should have been ordered by schools participating. NO SPECTATOR will be allowed without a wrist band. A downloadable order form is available through AJHD website. Please remind your decathletes, guests/spectators that the wrist band must be worn throughout the day.  Please know that wrist bands will be sold at the door but take note that as soon as we finished selling the last wrist band, we regret that your guests/spectators may not enter the arena.

Banners

  • Banners need to be hung on the rail where your contingent stays. You may not use masking tape, painter’s tape, clear tape, or any other tape. Use ‘zip ties” instead.  This is a very strict policy of L.A. Sports’ Arena. Size of banner:  2 ft x 3 ft. Avoid use of butcher paper banners.

  • Banners must be able to hold throughout the event.  At the end of the event, all banners must be taken down. Please see to it that you do not leave any bottles or any other items at your seating area.

Supervision

  • It is extremely important that students are STRICTLY supervised at all times.  This is a public arena. It is expected that appropriate behavior and exercise of good manners and conduct be upheld during the course of the event.  Blowhorns or other noisemakers are not allowed. These are disruptive. A sincere applause for students is quite appropriate. Parents who have small children need to understand that this is a long day and consideration be given to students on the test floor.  Safety is foremost.

  • Only water in plastic bottles will be allowed on the floor; ONE BOTTLE PER CONTESTANT.

  • NO ELECTRONIC GADGETS ON THE FLOOR.  This includes timers, cell phones, ipods, calculators, cameras, palm pilots, multi-function watches and any other devices. The team will be AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED if this policy is not followed. Please inform your students on this REQUIREMENT.

  • PENCILS: Bring a supply of # 2 pencils and erasers

  • Test materials will be collected at the end of testing. No test materials are to be taken home. This is AJHD property.

  • SACK LUNCHES may be brought.  There are no fast food restaurants within the arena. Focus on a healthy lunch for your competing students. Do not bring drinks in breakable bottles. See to it that students pick up after themselves when lunch is over.

  • CHECK-IN: Coaches begin check –in of their teams at 7:30 AM at the South entrance.  Only the head coach and the 10 competing members will be allowed downstairs. Alternates, other coaches and their guests will proceed to the Lodge seating area (upstairs).

  • PROCTORS will check-in upstairs. (Principals and coaches need to be aware of the guidelines.  Please read these thoroughly prior to the competition.)
